We firmly believe that every choice we make can contribute to a greener future. Our new Recycled Plastic Cutlery is a testament to this commitment. Crafted from 100% recycled plastic, specifically rPET, recovered from recycling, this collection offers a durable and stylish alternative to conventional single-use plastic utensils.
Our Recycled Plastic Cutlery isn't just any plastic—it's a conscious choice. rPET is a high-quality, durable plastic that is commonly used in plastic bottles and food containers. By utilising post-consumer and post-industrial rPET plastics, we reduce waste and conserve valuable resources. This eco-conscious approach not only minimises environmental impact but also helps close the recycling loop, making it the environmentally friendly choice for cutlery sets.
Sustainability doesn't mean compromising on style. Greenworks' full-tang 18/0 cutlery comes in an array of elegant and contemporary designs, making it the ideal choice for intimate dining settings and everyday use. Additionally, we are proud to offer a 3-piece children's set, specially designed with younger diners in mind, ensuring that sustainability becomes a family affair.
We’re not just stopping at our new cutlery line. Dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint across all fronts, we are actively removing plastic from the packaging of both new and old products, minimising waste, and ensuring our products reach you with the least environmental impact possible. Furthermore, we have invested in a range of energy-efficient technologies, including electric cars for our fleet, solar panels to harness clean energy, electric heating systems to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, and sensor lights to prevent unnecessary energy usage.
These efforts underscore our commitment to a greener and more sustainable future and helps us be one step closer to reaching our ambitious aim to achieve Net Zero emissions, specifically in scope 1 and 2, by the year 2030.

Barlow brook runs right past our office here at Grunwerg and often threatens to flood in winter. It’s the inspiration behind our Barlow cutlery, which features a standout mirrored finish with rounded ends. The stunningly unique dappled effect that this creates is sure to turn heads. As a contemporary cutlery set Barlow will make a great impression for any table setting. Part of our 'Rivers' collection all items in this series feature a beautifully weighted and balanced 3.5mm gauge to grace your table.
When thinking about creating a striking tablescape to complement Barlow, we’ve been inspired by the hues of nature around us to photograph a painted backdrop of abstract shapes and colors that encapsulates the green, blue and turquoise tones found surrounding rivers, streams and wooded areas.
Barlow is a uniquely designed cutlery pattern that really demands to take centre stage on any dining table. Keeping flatware and ceramics understated yet stylish sets a sophisticated tone. Slightly speckled blue studio style pottery provides another subtle texture suitable for a majority of dining styles and interior design directions.
Of course a nod to something fun is always a nice touch at dinner time and with a focus on keeping things eclectic we’ve introduced a very collectable vintage 1970s French Blue Lobster Terrine by Michel Caugant on our tablescape. It’s the perfect centerpiece for pâtés or dips with crudités for gatherings with friends where everyone can get stuck in with a Barlow Table Spoon in hand to scoop up something delicious.
Whatever your personal interior vibe might be Barlow is adaptable enough to suit traditional interiors as well as more modern environments. So whether you’ll be creating a look and feel that encapsulates the swinging sixties or prefer something bang up to date – with Barlow making an appearance at mealtimes you’ll certainly avoid being boring.
]]>In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Drone supplied power to several water wheels at early factories in the Dronfield Valley area and was crucial to the production of wool, soap, and steel.
To complement the simple and graceful design of this collection, we have created a tablescape using a Japanese style floor cushion of burgundy and red woven boucle which encapsulates a feeling of warmth and relaxation, whilst adding a daring dash of colour. The woven texture also provides a contrast to the smooth finish of the cutlery, ensuring the Drone set is your statement centrepiece.
Reminiscent of Japanese culture where meals are traditionally held on a tatami floor around a low table, we have created our own oriental inspired tablescape which introduces elements of eastern design evocative of a commitment to minimalism and functionality.
Taking the concept of Kanso as our lead inspiration for this look, we have created a dining feel which emphasises a direction for the home which is free from clutter and functional in nature.
Layering natural materials and colour palettes such as the slate placemats and terracotta flatware harkens back to the design routes of Drone which as part of our Rivers Collection has nature at the heart of everything.
Adding eclectic elements like our vintage ironware teapot, along with 18th and 19th century Chinoiserie bowls is a complementary style which is characterised by exuberant decoration, asymmetry and stylised subject matter.
Ultimately, with Drone as your centrepiece whichever design direction you gravitate towards personally; quality, clean lines and elegance will be assured.

Sheffield is known as the home of British steel and we are proud to be part of the local community. Our products were manufactured in the UK until the late 1970’s and the design team are still based in the Sheffield area.
Therefore key colourways and design attributes which draw inspiration from this have been utilised within our new brand guidelines. This includes red brickwork and steel girders which are key signifiers of Sheffield in days gone past. This website which we launched last year already encompasses our new branding and soon a newly developed trade website will follow suit.
You may have noticed that over the last few months we have been slowly transitioning from our old logo to a new one. This was originally designed for our cutlery, to highlight the quality and luxuriousness of the products. However we decided it epitomised the core of everything that we do as Grunwerg products are designed for a life lived beautifully.
The text on the new logo was originally a deep blue colour, however we have changed this to furnace black, drawing inspiration from the coal and furnaces used to forge steel. The logo also includes a White Rose of York flower to symbolise our Yorkshire roots.
The re-brand gives us the opportunity to further develop the enviable reputation that we’ve built with brands such as Global, Vektra and Pioneer.
With our new look comes a new tone of voice and you will be seeing a more informed yet fun side to Grunwerg. We want to engage with our customers on a more relaxed and informal level and hope to become a well known and loved household brand in our own right.

Perfectly simple elegance with Porter
As a river that runs through Sheffield, the Porter Brooks steep gradient made it ideal for powering the nascent water wheel and works associated with the cutlery industry.
When it came to designing this namesake collection after the Porter for our Rivers range, we wanted to emulate the feeling of power and stability which is why the slight decline that moves from the centre of the handles in a rectangular shape feels architectural in form. The overall aim is to stamp a sense of permanence and strength in the design that reflects the heritage of the Sheffield’s cutlery industry.
Simple tableware with accents of deep green and teal against neutral tones offers the perfect look to pair with Porter. We’ve also added further touches of nature through decorative pottery elements from local Sheffield artisans alongside Carn Pottery which is produced a little further afield down in Cornwall.
A design that offers a sense of permanence and strength
With such a strong looking cutlery design you could of course go a little more eclectic with your tablescaping should you choose to. We’ve decided to keep things cool and calm with a dark sage green herringbone tablecloth and greenery dotted around the table to tie in the feeling of nature and outdoors that has inspired our Rivers collection.
One thing is certain, with 18/10 Quality Stainless Steel and a 3.5mm Gauge, Porter is a quality collection which has been made to stand the test of time.
Inspired by nature and the surroundings of South Yorkshire
]]>Well there’s no reason that these two worlds can’t combine and just before we head into the week of Christmas we’re showcasing how our Fiesta Cutlery Collection makes for the ideal contemporary partner to place against a more classic Blue and White Spode tableware setting.
Create a spectacular Christmas table with our Fiesta Cutlery Collection
With beaded baubles aplenty to give everyone a little extra seasonal sparkle when they sit down to eat, alongside hydrangeas taken from the garden at the end of Autumn and dried slightly before the frost gets to them, we’ve created a simple tablescape with a distinct Victoriana meets modern day vibe.
Our Fiesta cutlery collection presents a distinctive contemporary design with a well-sculpted handle featuring a concaved detail towards the bottom of the handle making it a pleasure to hold. It’s stand out feature is definitely the knife which has been designed to sit upright on your table – a sleekly unique detail.
Such a contemporary cutlery design of course will go perfectly with a more current day aesthetic. But for those of you who might enjoy mixing it up interiors wise our traditional Christmas meets modern day look really showcases how well Victorian and Edwardian furniture along with embroidered textiles and Art Deco inspired decorations can work with a contemporary cutlery pattern.
Oversized black placemats provide a suitably minimal backdrop
We’ve kept things simple when it comes to placemats with a large black leather option that comfortably sits all your cutlery and tableware together and shows off Fiesta to its full potential. Our table runner was sourced from Etsy and is a Suzani style decorative embroidered textile. The blue and black colourway helps pull together all the tonal accents in this scheme along with pops of deeper red from the artificial pom pom stems and warmer hues of the dried hydrangeas.
Our napkins are white French linen just wrapped around the flower stem with some green raffia ribbons. The green is tied in again though paper decorations which provide a contrast with the more opulent art deco beaded stars and trees placed across plates. Adding individual name cards to these decorations as gifts for guests is a lovely idea for them to have a takeaway memento that they can cherish rather than throwaway crackers full of plastic.
Bring old and new together in this eclectic tablescape
It's all about creating a festival feel for Christmas Day with cherished pieces alongside sustainably sourced decorations and a cutlery collection that’s made to last. When it comes to the food you serve – well that’s up to you. But one things for certain. Pairing together old with new makes for a truly eclectic festive experience full of soul and meaning.
Time for tea - don't forget to leave room for pudding

]]>Descending from the Hallam moors, the Rivelin is a fast-flowing river, used for centuries to drive water wheels that powered the very first industrial forges of Sheffield. This is why we designed Rivelin for sturdiness. With a balanced 3.5mm gauge for added strength and weight, Rivelin feels solid but also tactile and pleasing to handle.
Unique pentagon shaped ends that taper down
When it comes to designing the look and feel of your table with Rivelin in mind it’s a cutlery range that commands attention, so feel free to experiment and go bold with textures and colours that complement your overall design scheme and interiors vibe.
We’ve personally styled a look to give an updated take on a Scottish Highlands Winter Dining theme. A contemporary tartan table covering in muted tones of green, mustard and grey works to give an almost frosty feel to the backdrop. Combined with foraged thistles and eucalyptus sprigs, these simple touches of foliage bring interest to a tablescape which envelopes the aura of winter whilst still feeling fresh and vibrant.
Live the high life with an updated highlands theme featuring Rivelin
If you’re looking to introduce an extra touch of interest with your tableware then adding an antique Faience Plate featuring an interesting scene or animal is a great way to get guests talking. Our chosen early 19th century Faience plate as shown above features a deer with antlers – the perfect nod to Scotland – but actually come from Nevers in France and was found on Rustique, a UK based online antique store who provide a curated selection of French pottery, art, and tableware, sourced from rural France.
Bordallo Pinheiro takes inspiration from organic forms to create their dishes
Want to add an element of fun to your plates and dishes to perfectly complement the radiance of our Rivelin cutlery? Bordallo Pinheiro from Portugal with its iconic cabbage shaped plates offers a unique and quirky look and being dishwasher friendly is also a great choice for everyday use. The side plate peeking in above is the ideal size for serving snacks or appetisers.
Of course, vintage plates provide endless opportunities to inject vibrancy and pattern. Taking an Art Deco Royal Doulton plate such as ‘Bird in Foliage’ below and layering place settings underneath with a deep green velvet on top of the subtle tartan tones adds a real sense of richness to your dining experience.
Rich resplendence or marvellous minimalism - Rivelin suits any aesthetic
Whatever you decide on, with cutlery from Grunwerg as your choice you’ll be starting off with quality items made to stand the test of time. So whether you prefer a dining scheme full of resplendent richness or a more minimal approach to mealtimes Rivelin is sure to rock your table.
]]>Sheaf is slender, elegant and seriously sophisticated
This collection of course is named after the famous river Sheaf, which had a huge part to play in making Sheffield one of the first cities in the world to become an industrial powerhouse. The Sheaf in fact is the river which gives Sheffield its name dating back to Anglo Saxon times.
Fast forward to modern day and the Sheaf is itself coming back to life after many years of pollution with nature returning to its waters. In many ways this collection is a celebration of our heritage with a sophisticated flare that reflects the ever changing cosmopolitan nature of our home city.
So what sort of setting should you look at creating when it comes to celebrating this winter with Sheaf as your cutlery centrepiece? We personally think you need to look no further than bringing in a touch of nature to your dining table which you’ll easily find by just stepping outdoors.
Gather elements of nature from your doorstep
Our table backdrop above is a herringbone mixed wool throw in a deep sage green hue. Be bold and experiment with different textiles on your table, they add texture, colour and interest and are essential if you’re looking to devise a theme and make a statement.
We were lucky in gathering the very last of the rosehips which adds an essential pop of seasonal red to our tablescape. Dried thistles, ivy, evergreen pine and conifer cuttings give a fuss free approach to decoration. We prefer a simple look - nothing that involves an oasis and hours of flower school training.
Tableware that has contrasting glazed patterns in deep blues and greens complements the inspiration of nature for the Sheaf collection. This cutlery is seriously elegant so really any colourways and pattern you put around it will look great.
Rocky crags and moody skies make their way indoors
Our abstract painted backdrop above takes its influence from the rocky crags of the Peak District, south of Sheffield with Stanage Edge being a particular favourite here at Grunwerg. A touch of oriental elegance from the Japanese cast iron trivet pictured below also provides another layer of visual interest with a touch of deeper red.
It's all about creating a sense of timelessness and wanderlust devoted to the environment around us. You don’t have to journey far to evoke a feeling of calm and serenity and just taking the time to bring that indoors to your dining experience will have a calming effect. After all, gathering round together to dine should be a relaxing, restorative experience – just like walking alongside an ancient river like the Sheaf for inspiration.
Leaves turn from yellow to golden brown
]]>Our premium Luma collection features long, fine flute grooves along the handle, and the solid shape expresses traditional luxury. With a mirrored finish and distinctive design, this collection will make a magnificent impression at the dining table. All items in this range are made using heavyweight, deluxe 18/10 stainless steel and are finished to the highest of standards.
Create a lustrous and radiant dining statement this Autumn with Luma
Rich green glazed plates are a must for creating a tablescape that shines with radiance. If you’re a fan of combining vintage styles with more modern tableware, then introducing Minton or Wedgewood Majolica styles from the 1800s is a great way to add colour and tonal complexity.
The Majolica plates featured here as the main place setting have a stunning iridescent glaze on them that captures the light beautifully to create a unique luster on the dining table. Antique plates like these are readily available online and more affordable than you might think. Don’t be afraid to mix and match them – that just adds to the charm.
Chrysanthemums are perfect flowers for Autumn, symbolising friendship, happiness and wellbeing. In Asia this flower also signifies life and rebirth, an apt message as we head into the colder months where much of nature hibernates. The gorgeous combination of rich yellow and deep russet red petals makes for a simple yet colorful decoration for guests plates contrasting nicely against statement plates.
Black Bearded Wheat to elevate the Autumnal vibes
Of course, textiles can make or break your overall dining scheme but don’t be tempted to go for beige and bland this Autumn. The cotton block printed fabric making up the backdrop of our tablescape is inspired by ancient printing techniques and has a distinctly Jacobean flavour. The rich saturation of colour creates a visually impactful statement, but with its nod to the traditional feels completely appropriate in a scheme that celebrates a quirky take on luxury.
Miniature dried roses give an extra element of nature to this look and along with Black Bearded Wheat elevates the overall Autumnal vibe. The prevalent flora and fauna theme inherent to Wedgewood Majolica with its additional basket motif also works particularly well as a side plate setting.
Quality is key for any dining table where you want to create a wow factor for your guests, and one thing you can feel assured of is that Luma will certainly deliver with a finish that feels substantial and durable. So light up your life this Autumn and bring the brightness of Luma to your mealtimes.
Luma delivers a substantial wow factor
]]>Traditionally, late September through to early November has always been a time of harvest and celebration for many countries and cultures. It’s an opportunity to give thanks for the crops that the summer months have brought us and a chance to gather round the table with family and friends to share food together.
Inspired by a walk in the water meadows behind Winchester College, John Keats wrote one of the finest opening lines in English Poetry over 200 years ago in his ode to Autumn. So, when it comes to celebrating this season of mists and mellow fruitfulness why not get together in style and create a dinner table setting that Keats would be proud to sit at?
Make the perfect Autumnal Dining Statement with our Derwent range
Of course, whether you’re serving Toffee Apples or Tapenade, cutlery is a key part of any dinner party get together. And what better way is there to make a statement on your Autumn table than a design centered around the flowing, organic shapes of leaves in nature?
Derwent, one of our newly introduced ‘Rivers Ranges’ is just such a collection. Reimagining the classic baguette pattern, it features a strong spin down the shaft of the handle to flare out into a soft angular point, The overall effect emulates the shape of a leaf and most importantly feels tactile and natural to the touch.
Such a strongly inspired cutlery design deserves a table setting for Halloween or Bonfire night gatherings that sets the scene for a warm, inviting environment. Think simple terracotta plates, combined with neutral ceramics that introduce rustic glazed elements in browns and greens.
Soft earthy tones work best for an Autumn themed table setting
Variegated pumpkins make for a visually stunning centerpiece. Just stack them in a large open studio pottery bowl with a minimal amount of care and attention. A slightly haphazard approach is great for this look, so don’t be afraid to dot pumpkins around the table and to the corner of placemats – they can always be moved to your central bowl arrangement if they get in the way whilst eating.
Ochre and rust coloured textiles work fantastically well on a table scheme where Autumn is your central theme. Washable velvets in a dark mustard tone will easily withstand any spills and add that extra touch of softness to your table arrangements. Multicoloured apples with some leaves still attached also give another textural element to the table. Of course autumnal foliage is everywhere so it’s easy to create a cornucopia of seasonal colours, just pick up fallen leaves from a local park.
Simplicity in design is a key factor to creating a tasteful ambience
The main thing to remember is to have fun with your own Autumnal table setting and inject a sense of your own personality. Whether you prefer your proceedings take place with some fake blood and vampire fangs or would rather crack open some champagne after putting your own little monsters to bed, there's no wrong or right way to celebrate the season in your own home. (But obviously there’s a more tasteful way to do it).
]]>During the day, our guests took part in a cookery class in the dream kitchen at Sauce by The Langham. It was a great way for customers to get to grips with the new Global G-106 Kiritsuke Knife that we’ve just introduced. We’d also love to say it gave us the opportunity to improve our cooking skills. Sadly however that wasn’t the case.
We cooked up a storm (well tried to) of a Fillet of Beef with Isle of Wight Panzanella Salad & Basil Pesto for mains. Then for dessert a Valrhona Chocolate Fondant with Poached Cherries & Crème Fraiche was attempted. Some succeeded, however many ended up looking like chocolate lava. The main thing to note is that everything was delicious. Luckily it was only our Sales Director Tom Basford who got on the wrong side of the super sharp Global knife ending up with a slight cut, so we are taking that as a good result. Despite the mishaps, the dishes went down a treat and everybody had a great day.
Tasting time in Sauce Cooking School at the Langham
After our self-prepared lunches a selection of customers were shown around our brand-new Cutlery Showroom located in the basement level of our Santoku shop on Great Portland Street, Marylebone. It was the perfect moment for our customers to get better acquainted with our new ‘Rivers Range’ of 18/10 3.5mm Gauge Cutlery - 10 exciting new collections named after the rolling rivers which form the main geographical features of our own home county of South Yorkshire.
Global Knives
As we are the UK Distributors for Global Knives, it was the perfect opportunity for our customers to get up close and personal with a new range of Global products. We've just launched a range called the ‘Little Essentials’, the concept being that they include all the GS knives needed for pretty much any kitchen task. Sure, there's probably one or two things that this great range cannot achieve, however we're sure there is a knife within the 200 or so other Global knives that would do the trick.
Little Essentials comprises of a range of twelve small knives, each with specific characteristics that work together to form a comprehensive versatile knife set. Included in the set are four brand new knives, the GS-108/SC 12cm Utility Scalloped Blade, GS-108/HSE 12cm Half Serrated Steak Knife, GS-108/UT 12cm Utility Plain Blade and a GS-108/SE 12cm Utility Serrated Blade. These are all offered with the G-88/4003 in-draw knife dock which brings the ideal storage solution to these small kitchen knives.
The Global Knives Little Essentials Range
Secondly Global have introduced two new wooden knife storage solutions, which is a new direction from their traditional steel offerings.
The Hikaeme 6pce In-Drawer Knife Set includes 5 best-selling knives all housed in a beautiful beechwood storage unit. The name Hikaeme translates to "humble, moderate and reserved" in Japanese, so if you want to be humble and hide your knives safely from view, then this is the ideal storage solution.
The ideal in-drawer storage solution for your Global Knives
This set contains a G-2 20cm Cooks Knife, G-102 14cm Vegetable Knife, G-97 20cm Bread Knife, G-103 15cm Utility Knife and a G-104 10cm Paring Knife. This set ensures you have a knife for every occasion and the handles have been specially designed to look the same.
Global’s new Takashi 8pce Knife Block Set comes complete with a convenient storage solution in the form of an attractive beechwood block. Takashi means- Ambition, Esteem, Honour so if you hold your Global Knives in Esteem – this could be the block for you.
An attractive and stylish countertop storage option
The set contains a G-2 20cm Chef’s Knife, G-97 20cm Bread Knife, GS-60 15cm Utility Knife, GS-5 14cm Vegetable Knife, GSF-22 11cm Utility Knife, GSF-15 8cm Peeling Knife and the GKS-210 Kitchen Scissors.
The choice between the two sets has led to the tag line ‘Which WOOD You Choose?’ which obviously we are very proud of.
Finally, Global have introduced a special edition Kiritsuke Knife. With only 500 of these currently produced, it was a product that was in demand. This versatile knife can be used to perform most of the tasks normally done with a Gyuto or Chef’s Knife, but also those of the Nakiri and Sujihiki. It has less curvature than the typical Gyuto, making it less suited for “rocking action chopping” but perfect for a “push and pull” cutting action.
The limited edition Kiritsuke Knife
The tip of the blade is particularly suitable for fine dicing and chopping. This limited-edition knife was used in the cooking class earlier that day, and our customers were able to take it home in a goody bag (carefully packaged as we didn’t want any more accidents) for their own personal use.
Katana Saya
Our customers were also shown the latest additions to Grunwerg’ s Katana Saya range of kitchen knives. These knives feature exceptionally high-quality VG-10 Damascus Steel blades, inspired by Japanese knife making traditions.
Following on from the Katana Saya Olivewood, Pakkawood and Elements, the last two developments are our Katana Pearl and Katana Tiger collections.

]]>Our Rivers designs reflect the natural beauty of the babbling brooks, stunning streams and rolling rivers which form the main geographical features of Sheffield and our home county. Indeed with 25 rivers in total covering the whole of Yorkshire, we couldn’t help but feel inspired to design and craft a collection which felt representative of our roots, and gave us the opportunity to pay homage to the nature and beauty which makes up our surrounding area.
Explore Barlow, Derwent, Dron and Rivelin now
With four of our Rivers ranges having just arrived it’s the perfect time to find out more about the Barlow, Derwent, Dron and Rivelin collections and how these exquisitely designed cutlery sets can add the perfect finishing touch to your dining experience.
With rounded ends and a unique dappled effect, Barlow is a collection which is sure to turn heads. Reflecting the raw nature of the Barlow Brook which runs just past Grunwerg its hammered, high polished finish is reminiscent of light bouncing from water and rocks when winter weather is more turbulent and the Brook threatens to flood.
Barlow has been designed with a unique high polish hammered finish
Derwent has been designed to feature an organic flared leaf shape which reflects the flora and fauna found in nature whilst Drone also has an naturalistic feel with a curved end shape that is innately minimal yet tactile and smooth. Rivelin features a unique pentagon design to give the appearance of a faceted, industrial shape that represents strength and weight. With a namesake that powered the very first industrial forges of Sheffield its only right that our Rivelin collection feels powerful and strong to the touch.

]]>As well as our premium cutlery and tableware products, we also develop our own knife brands. The most recent addition is our Katana Saya range of kitchen knives. This collection introduces a range of Damascus Steel kitchen knives that feature exceptionally high-quality blades, inspired by Japanese knife making traditions.
Made with 67 Layers of the highest quality steel with a high carbon content, these knives ensure exceptional toughness. Additionally, the VG-10 blends the durability of carbon steel with the corrosion resistance of Stainless Steel. By utilising VG-10 stainless steel, the Katana Saya ranges deliver one of the best edge retentions in the market and one the most premium steels in Japanese culinary products.
The journey from the beginning…
Back in August 2021 the first of our Katana Saya Knife ranges were brought to market. The scope of the Katana Saya range is to blend culinary traditions from both Europe and Japan. We have an extensive range of knives that represents classic styles from both Eastern and Western cultures.
The first knives we introduced are our Katana Saya Olivewood and Katana Saya Pakkawood ranges. These are our largest collections with 15 different individual knives with a choice of two handles. You may choose either the traditional dark Pakkawood handles, or the light Olivewood handles. The deep black wooden Pakkawood handles, strike the perfect balance between opulence and hard-wearing durability. Alternatively, the Katana Saya Olivewood handles offer a more natural elegant look, which are also lightweight and soft in the hand.
Depending on choice, the Eastern inspired knife ranges accompany with a wooden ‘Saya’. For those looking for a more Westernised nature, the knife ranges feature a quality leather sheath. Both offer perfect protection for your knife and its sharp edge.
Additionally, we supply all our individual knives with a wooden display case. Therefore, whatever knife you choose from either range, you are guaranteed protection and safe storage.
So Eastern, Western, Olivewood or Pakkawood, you can choose whichever suits you and your kitchen best.
Katana Elements
Retaining the same high performance 67 Layer, VG-10 Damascus Steel blades, Katana Elements was the second inspiration for Katana Saya and was launched in January 2022. This range is inspired by the ancient wisdom of the elements that coalesce to make up our earth. Those considered to be Fire, Water and Air, which are showcased through the multi-coloured handles. Katana Elements is the only range that offers a 9 Piece Knife Block Set in all three colour tones.
The magnitude of the earth’s fiery underbelly is where the Katana Elements volcanic range finds its inspiration. With the colour red being a symbol of Peace and Prosperity in Japanese culture, these knives cast a delicate balance between the two contrasting forces.
The magnificence of the ocean is the source of inspiration behind the Katana Elements Ocean collection. The flowing blue resin evokes the might of lapping waves depicted in traditional woodcuts. In the Japanese culture, they consider blue to be lucky and a symbol of calm and purity, contrasting harmoniously to the mighty ocean.
Finally, the rainforest is both mysterious, yet full of so much life and wonder. Therefore, Katana Element’s Rainforest range evokes discreet and ambient aesthetic. In Japanese culture, green symbolises both life and growth, which we believe brings a homely feel that beholds mysterious beauty.
Katana Pearl
The third beautiful collection presented by Katana Saya is the Katana Pearl range, which draws inspiration from the beauty of nature. Brought to market in July 2022 it was an instant hit. Made with the same VG-10 Damascus Steel, this 17-piece range, available in knife block sets evokes the beauty of the marine life.
Katana Pearl introduces a spectacular iridescent effect inspired by abalone shells into the elegantly beautiful pearl handles. The abalone shell is known locally as Paua and is said to enhance feelings of peace, compassion and love. It is also known for its strength and durability.
Each single knife is supplied with either a wooden ‘Saya’ or a luxurious sheath for care and protection. Both elegant and eye catching these handles capture a beauty that only the natural world could endure.
Katana Tiger
The Katana Saya’s journey finishes with the Katana Tiger range. This was introduced in September 2022 and is crafted from the same high quality Japanese VG-10 Damascus steel blade material as our other Katana knives. Each handle is perfectly weighted and features a striking tiger print design to provide a fearsome armoury of kitchenware.
This 17-piece range was created in commemoration of the Chinese Year of the Tiger (2022 – 2023) which symbolises courage and strength, a spirit we believe is a welcome addition to any kitchen. The eye-catching tiger patterned handles will inject a spark of the wild and individualism into your knife collection!

]]>Setting the perfect dinner party table isn’t always easy and with dinner parties back in vogue more than ever, it’s never been a better time to master the art of setting your table.
So, what steps should you take to create the perfect piece of tablescaping for a special gathering with your Grunwerg cutlery? Whether it’s an intimate family get-together or a unique occasion, here are some tips on creating a luxury dining experience which will keep your guests gathered round the table chatting until the small hours.
How to set a dinner table
The way you set your dinner table can depend on a lot of different factors. The occasion, your cutlery set, and the number of guests attending. You also want to consider what courses you’re serving and whether it’s a brunch, lunch, or dinner. Having a good understanding of the basics of laying your table will help you choose the right flatware for any dinner table.
Why should you spend time setting your dinner table? We recommend setting your dinner table before your guests arrive – or even before you start cooking. Nailing your table setting will create a luxury experience for your guests, being the cherry on the cake of your dinner party.
When you’re hosting a dinner party, your table becomes the focal point of the event. We’ve all spent a party sitting around a table enjoying a glass or two of wine and mouth-watering food with our nearest and dearest. Food has a way of bringing people together. The last you want to do is break the magic by running back and forth to your kitchen to get your cutlery set.
What you need to know about laying any dinner table
You won’t set a dinner table for a family brunch the same way you would for a more formal occasion. Whatever type of dinner party you’re hosting, there are a few universal rules. This etiquette forms the basic principles of table setting with your luxury cutlery sets.
Firstly, your dinner table should be made up of three elements – your Grunwerg cutlery, glassware, and plate sets. When you’re placing your cutlery down beside your dining set, the base should be in line with the bottom of your plates.
The most important piece from your cutlery set to get right is the placement of your knife. The distance that your place your knife from your plate will determine the rest of your tablescaping. The blade of the knife should also face inward towards your plates.
Glassware is the next element that often confuses people. The golden rule is to start in size order. When you’re sitting down, the shortest glass should be the one nearest to you with larger glasses behind it in ascending order.
A step-by-step guide for setting your table
When you google “how to set a dinner table?”, it’s easy to become instantly overwhelmed. The tablescaping trend means that the internet is full of glamorous table settings that look like they’re straight from a Wes Anderson film. Don’t worry. You don’t need to channel your inner First Lady or European Royalty to master the art of setting your table.
Our advice is always to start by thinking about the occasion. What are you hosting your dinner table in honour of? Your number of guests will also determine your table setting. Our gold 16-piece cutlery set is an elegant choice that adds warmth to your table setting, whether you’re hosting a colleague or your best friends.
If you’re hosting a larger dinner party and serving a traditional three-course meal, you’ll need a 56-piece cutlery set. This stainless steel Grunwerg cutlery set embodies understated elegance and works for any occasion, making it an ideal investment for fans of hosting regular dinner parties.
This short step-by-step guide breaks down the art of setting your dinner table. Following these steps will help you fall in love with hosting dinner parties.
Begin setting your table by choosing your tablecloth. It will set the tone for your tablescaping and give you a base to build your dinner table around. You’ll typically want to choose one that will help your cutlery set stand out.
Your dinner table will quickly come to life when you start setting your plates. The dinner plate should go in the centre of each setting with a salad plate at the top. The bread plate should be aligned to the left of the salad plate. Place the butter knife horizontally across the bread plate.
Choose your favourite Grunwerg cutlery set and start by working from the inside out. You want your flatware to match for every guest, including your cutlery set. Our Deco 56-piece cutlery set is a stainless steel style that works for any occasion.
The first piece of cutlery to place beside the dinner plate is the fork. It should sit to the left of the plate with the salad fork placed to the left. The knife should go on the right side of the dinner plate. The spoon should be placed to the right of your knife. The last piece of cutlery to place is the dessert spoon, which should sit horizontally at the top of the dinner plate.
Glasses are just as important as your cutlery set. Water and wine glasses sit in the upper right corner in height order, with the water glass nearest the plate.
Build out your table settings by folding a napkin and adding it to each salad plate. You can also create a luxury feel for your dinner party by adding name cards to each setting.
Do you want to end your dinner party with a cup of tea? We all enjoy a soothing cup of tea or coffee at the end of an evening. You can finish off your dinner table with a cup and saucer by placing them below your glasses to be used during the dessert course.
Take your dinner parties to the next level with luxury cutlery courtesy of Grunwerg. Shop our cutlery collections and bring your dining table to life.

]]>Choosing the right teapot might not seem like an important decision, but when tea is life the right teapot is everything. There’re countless different designs out there, so how do you choose the best teapot to make the perfect cup of tea?
The simple answer to this one is yes, the type of teapot you buy can indeed affect the taste of your cup of tea! Stainless steel, cast iron, and porous ceramics may influence the taste for your cuppa. You want a teapot that will brew your tea and not leave a noticeable after taste, which can happen with unglazed ceramic teapots.
These types of products can be divided by the characteristics they have. If you use loose leaf tea, you will need a teapot with a fine strainer or an infuser teapot. The material and durability are the main factors you need to consider when choosing between these different teapot types. The best material really does depend on your individual needs, and what tea you want to brew. The best design is what fits with your own personal style, and the style of your space.
Stainless steel or ceramic?
These two types are the most popular choices. Tea lovers should opt for ceramic teapots if they want an aesthetically pleasing item that may contribute to the tea’s flavour. Ceramic teapots chip easily compared to stainless steel. They can also be prone to staining. However, a stainless steel teapot may be an excellent choice if you desire the classic look. The long lasting and hardwearing materials ensure breakages are non existent.
Grunwerg
If you’re on the hunt for the perfect teapot, Grunwerg can help you out. We have decades of experience in crafting quality British teaware designs. Customers regularly rely on us when it comes to creating the ideal afternoon tea setting.

18/10 Stainless steel
As an alloy constructed mainly from carbon and iron, stainless steel is used for its high-strength benefits which keep it from corroding and rusting. Nickel and chromium can be added to the alloy to give utensils an attractive, shiny finish as well as unbreakable strength. Stainless steel is a useful material to look out for when buying cutlery since it is normally more durable, stronger, and better quality than pieces containing only one singular metal.
In particularly, 18/10 stainless steel is good to look out for when purchasing cutlery since it contains a higher percentage of both nickel and chromium compared to 18/0 stainless steel. The higher percentage will lead to ultimately better quality material, enhancing longevity – which is crucial when investing in a cutlery set!
So, what kind of designs are currently trending on our market?
Black: a striking colour for a striking meal
As an iconic colour, black is becoming the new silver where cutlery is concerned, making utensil sets pop with sophisticated elegance. Black cutlery pairs particularly well with pure white and China red colours, with each enhancing the aesthetic effect of the other.
Add a special effect to your dining experience
In particular, the colour gold can add a touch of luxury to your dinner table, although other trending metallic colours such as copper and rose gold can also give your traditional designs a modern, colourful twist. The spectrum of colours available including in the rainbow has become a popular finish, with kids loving the colourful designs as well as adults. Thankfully, Grunwerg offers coloured cutlery designs with a high quality finish and 18/10 stainless steel, making them durable and long lasting - and stands out as the high quality option.
Practical elements of design are also sometimes overlooked, with an elegantly thin handle transforming the shimmering cutlery design into a truly visual appetiser. Slim, contemporary designs are often said to calm down the dinner table, whilst gleaming, colourful finishes can offer a playful and excitable culture that takes from the traditionally classic design.
Presenting your coloured cutlery
Layering your tableware is an efficient way to make a big statement at your dinner table, especially when contrasting patterns, textures, and colours are involved to create that eye-catching effect. You could try tying your new cutlery in with specific parts of the tableware to prevent it from looking too random, bringing together a final, finishing look that presents itself with balance and elegance. This is often difficult to get right, however, we might be able to guide you. For example, if you opt for gold cutlery, you may decide to combine this with a calmer plate design, balancing out the boldness of the shining metal to construct a colourful, eye-catching, and well-considered table setting. Don't forget to explore our guide on how to set a table to ensure your dining table is looking perfect.

]]>When?
Every parent has their own methods, but whilst some babies can vary, most follow a similar pattern in this area. You may notice your baby begin to feed themselves when they are 9 months to 12 months. During this time, your baby will most likely be familiar with spoons and will be comfortable with bringing their hands and other objects to their mouth. After getting more confident with a spoon, you could start to introduce a fork.
At 2-years-old, you can still expect to be cutting up your child’s food. Demonstrate to them how to spear their food with a fork, allowing them to imitate you. To allow their confidence to blossom, be sure to introduce a variety of different foods with varying textures. After all, the child needs to learn how to deal with all types of food rather than just one!
How?
Again, the method varies slightly for every family when it comes to guiding your children through life. However, you can take away a few useful tips to get you and your child started in this area. As mentioned above, it’s recommended to start the baby on just a spoon, allowing them to put all their attention into just one area. Choosing a soft spoon is always a sensible idea since this utensil will encounter your baby’s gums.
If your baby doesn’t show interest in grabbing the spoon, you may want to encourage the baby yourself by dipping it in some food and simply handing it to them. You could experiment with a variety of different spoons, discovering what works for your little one.
One of the key things to do in teaching your baby how to use cutlery is by doing it yourself. By modelling what they are supposed to be doing, your child will eventually mirror what you do. Furthermore, sitting with your child when they are trying to use cutlery is effective because you can help guide them and implement more role modelling. A lot of the learning is just about showing your baby how to do things, including how they can scoop things with a spoon and stab things with a fork. These techniques are usually perfected at around 5-years-old.
What Grunwerg has to offer

]]>So, if you’re wanting to impress guests in your home or just want to treat yourself to the perfect afternoon tea, how can you go about doing this? What do you need to create the perfect Afternoon Tea?
How to create your perfect afternoon tea experience
Constructing your own afternoon tea doesn’t have to be difficult, but there are several things to consider in preparation for this classic feel good occasion. Do you want to have a theme? An Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatters Tea party would be amazing fun! Or how about Pride and Prejudice with regency tradition. There are a million different options out there, don't limit yourself.
Set your scene
Firstly, you need to decide where your afternoon tea will take place. For this, take the number of guests, weather, and local venues into consideration. If there are too many visitors to fit in your dining room, perhaps you could brave an outdoor setting in your garden, providing that the British weather stays on your side!
Decide on your spread
The Tea. Think about what tea you would like to serve, a citrusy Earl Grey, a bold Darjeeling or a traditional classic English Breakfast tea. Maybe have a bottle of bubbles on standby if you want to add some fizz to your occasion? The spread is what really aims to impress in the event of afternoon tea. Tea stands can be a great option for guests to choose their favourite things, with scones traditionally being placed on the top tier, then sandwiches, and then sweet treats on the bottom.
If your not much of a home cook, how about visiting local bakeries and delis and supporting the local community? Its a lot less clean up and you are boosting your local economy!
Entertainment
Whilst providing food and drink is all well and good, you might decide to add a little more entertainment to keep your guests present. Perhaps introduce a quiz or fitting music. You could even bring a striking debate to the table to delve into: does the jam or cream go on the scone first?!

With endless types of cheese and cheese knives out there, selecting the right one for the right task can sometimes be very challenging. So, take a look below to impress your guests with an impressive cheese board with the right tools for the job.
Cheddar Knife
The cheddar knife used to cut one of the most popular types of cheeses: cheddar. This cheese knife has been crafted to cut hard cheeses, its cleaver shaped design featuring a wide blade to allow the user to utilise balance and force to push it downwards. Break out the crackers and a craft mustard to get the most out of your harder cheeses.
Soft Cheese Knife
The soft cheese knife is perfect for cutting – you guessed it – soft to semi-soft cheese. Working well on cheeses like camembert and brie, this knife bears holes in the blade to prevent the cheese from sticking. We recommend a tang fruity condiment with soft cheese - perfection!
Flat Cheese Knife
This cheese knife is designed to cut slices from aged cheese, with the user vertically holding the blade over the cheese before pushing downwards. Featuring a flat, paddle-like blade, this item is perfect for Swiss and Asiago cheeses.
Cheese Spreader
This knife features a rounded blade, making it perfect for applying cheese spreads onto crackers. With a dull edge, this knife works best on soft cheese like gorgonzola or cream cheese. Try a sweet chilli jam with your soft cheese to really make it sing!
Pronged Cheese Knife
The pronged cheese knife has multiple purposes, allowing the user to slice a piece of cheese and pick it up with the prongs. It features a narrow blade, the minimal surface area stopping soft cheese from sticking to it. As a product that works best on soft to semi-hard cheeses, this knife is ideal for parmesan and gouda.
Cheese Wire
This product offers a very comfortable handle and a fine wire for cleanly slicing a vast array of cheeses. Users simply have to place the cheese on a board and slice it vertically downwards. It’s perfect for tackling soft to semi-hard cheeses!
