At the start of the Summer, Director David Grunwerg offered our very own ‘Captain Tom’ £1,000 to give to a charity of his choice … if he cycled to work and back enough times to make up 100 miles. (Not a massive target, but he is not the most active 😉)
Our Captain Tom did reach 100 miles, with David offering to increase the donation to £5,000 if Tom carried on! A few months on and many miles later, we are thrilled to be able to donate £5,000 to two local charities.
First to receive the donation was Ashgate Hospicecare, based in Chesterfield.
Ashgate Hospicecare provides compassionate, specialist palliative and end of life care, free of charge, to patients with a life-limiting illness and their families across North Derbyshire. Their vision is that everyone in North Derbyshire with a life-limiting illness, and the people important to them, can make the most of every moment together and that they can die with dignity and comfort.
Grunwerg hopes that this small donation will help Ashgate Hospice continue to offer the invaluable care, support, and compassion that many families rely on during such difficult times.
Ashgate Hospices Senior Corporate and Community Fundraiser, Beth Porter, said:
“We cannot thank Tom and Grunwerg enough for their incredible fundraising efforts. In a year when the coronavirus pandemic has put unprecedented pressure on our services and resulted in the loss of vital income for the hospice through the closure of our shops and the cancellation of our fundraising events, Grunwerg’s generous gift is helping us to continue to care for those who need us. Your support is helping us to deliver our compassionate, specialist end of life care to patients and their families across North Derbyshire during one of the most difficult winters the hospice has ever faced. For that, we can’t thank you enough.
We are determined to be here for our community long into the future. But it’s only with thanks to the support of people like you that we can continue to deliver our services to the most vulnerable people in our community at this especially difficult time. Thank you.”

Grunwerg will also be donating to Saint Luke’s Hospice, based in Sheffield. So stay tuned!
